What do you find your value in? What’s your value?
The word value can be defined as something that we find of worth, importance or significance. Many people in life will put their value in this world. They find their importance or how valuable they are based on the likes, comments, and views they receive. They find their value through the attention and the respect that people give to them. They find their value by the amount of money they receive and in the materialistic items they have.
I believe that as followers of Jesus we should never put our value in those things. If we were to put our value on the things of this world, we would be allowing our value to be built on things that don’t last, things that change and things that break down due to circumstances or our feelings. If we build our value on worldy things it would be like building a house on sand without a foundation. That house would break down and fall apart because it wasn’t built on something firm and lasting.
So, what do you find your value in? What's your value?
Matthew 6:26 ESV
26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
This verse is speaking to those who are worried about their circumstances. Worried about what they will eat, drink, wear, etc! If we are worried and anxious about having enough to survive, I believe that we need to evaluate what we are putting our value in. So, what are you putting your value in? If you realize that you are struggling to find value in the Lord, I want to encourage you to set some time aside and seek the Lord. Search the Word and find some verses that add value to the places in your life where you’ve been putting value in the world. Knowing the value God has put on you will eliminate any fears or worries about this life.
Matthew 6:31-32 ESV
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
This verse uses the word Gentiles because those are people who didn’t believe in God, and people who lived for the world. They didn’t understand the value God had on their life, and they didn’t put their trust in Jesus. How awesome is it that we as Christians can put our trust in God and we can know the value He has for us?!
God wants you to realize the value that He has placed on you so that you don't worry about the cares the world throws at you! If you are in a situation in your life that is bringing worry, or fear, then be sure to surround yourself with scriptures that speak on the value that God has on your life!
